Kristen Taekman’s Favorite Luxury Swimwear This Season

Swim season is here which means it’s time to start wearing the latest in swim trends! If you are anything like me, you have a few swimsuits that have withstood the test of time; classic tones and styles that have been in your wardrobe for years. Even though I am all about my life-long swimwear and don’t plan on getting rid of them anytime soon, it is important to keep up with the latest trends and upgrade your swim wardrobe every season!

This season, the hottest color in swim is…chocolate! This is such a great neutral tone that can easily be accessorized as it pairs well with just about every color (not to mention it also looks great with a nice tan). I also love the leopard print trend that is currently all the rage. ERES, one of my all time favorite swim designers, recently released leopard swimwear with a twist on the classic print. Rather than using dark tones, they designed their new collection using softer hues. As expected, polka dots and stripes are two other trends that are consistently in style, so don’t stray away from these classic prints. Although the list of swim trends goes on and on, here are few of my personal favorites:

Ruffles and Frills

The ruffles and frills trend takes your swim game to the next level. Ruffles were a huge trend last season and continue to be one of the hottest summer looks. Statement ruffles are the way to go! I personally think this is such a popular trend because ruffles offer an extra feminine vibe and look flattering on every body type! Another aspect I love about this particular look is that it can be worn as a top; it’s the ideal swimsuit to wear on vacation because you can throw on a pair of jeans shorts for lunch, dinner or drinks and you’re good to go. A swimsuit that can double as a top? Yes please! Some extra detailing can go a long way when adding to your swimwear collection this year. Some of my personal favorite designs are the Gypsy Off-The-Shoulder one-piece by Trina Turk and the Zolla Ruffle by Karla Colletto.

Belted Swimsuits

Remember last summer’s most popular swim trend? High-waisted bikinis! Well, the oh so popular trend now has a fun new accessory added into the mix…a belt! Belted swimsuits are all the rage and can be seen everywhere this season, not just in swimwear. I love the new take on retro swimsuits; why not add a belt? High waisted bottoms also tend to be super slimming while belts give the illusion of elongating the torso. If I had to pick a favorite trend of the season, it would definitely be the belted swimsuit. If you are starting to shop for swimwear, make sure to add a belted look to your collection. Solid & Striped as well as Onia Swim have fabulous belted swimsuits! It’s hard to pick just one.

Plunging Backlines

Whether at the beach or pool, rest assured you will see numerous one-piece swimsuits with plunging backlines. Think Baywatch babes running down the beach in their iconic red scooped-back swimsuits. The 90’s trend is back and has made its way down the runway and into just about every department store. This is such a great trend that is so chic yet a little daring. The plunging silhouette of this trend is a guaranteed showstopper! Say goodbye to plunging necklines, it’s all about showing off your back. I also love that you can wear this swimsuit like a bodysuit and pair it with a maxi skirt or cutoff shorts. The Leith textured one-piece swimsuit and the Rafia Metallic swimsuit by Marie France Van Damme are my two favorite plunging styles.

Cut Out One-Piece Swimsuits

This trend reminds me of a 90’s workout video (in a good way). This look is back with a vengeance. This is not the ideal look for sunbathing (talk about tan lines) but it is definitely a fab look for a day on a boat or chilling poolside with a glass of Rose. The days when one-piece swimsuits meant you were either a swimmer or covering up are long gone. Maillot swimsuits are hotter than ever and the market is flooded with different cuts and colors. Make your one-piece swimsuit stands out from the crowd and opt for one that has different details, textures and cutouts. The Jordan Scoop-Neck cutout by Solid & Striped (in white) and Kia Cutout by Mara Hoffman are two of my absolute favorite cut out one-pieces.

All in all, no matter your style or preference, there is defiantly something for everyone this season. Whether you are spending your summer building sandcastles, sipping Rose poolside, or simply sunning in your backyard, it’s time to update your swimwear this season!
