My Top 5 Eco Luxury Must Haves for Fall

The leaves are changing and the air is getting crisp.  Time to pack away our summer clothes for warm, luxurious pieces for autumn.  But don’t let the changing of the season make you go out and buy a whole new wardrobe.  The clothing/garment industry is the second largest polluter in the world (only behind fossil fuels).   I am a true believer in buying a few key investment pieces you will keep forever, rather than falling into the trap that is “fast fashion”.  Americans throw away an average of 80 pounds of clothes each year, per person.  Every purchase you make, makes a difference so choose wisely.

#5 The Jeans.  Denim is one of the most water intensive fabrics on the market (not to mention all the dye that is used to get the perfect blue hue) but Nudie Jeans is trying to change that.  Not only do they only use organic cotton, made with social responsibility in a transparent production line but the company also offers free repairs, reselling of second hand products and recycling worn out pieces into rugs, bags and wallets.  All styles are unisex and come in a wide variety of shapes and shades.  And the company recommends that you don’t wash your jeans for the first 6 months.  I have a pair and I live in them.

#4 The Hat.  I could never find a “beanie” that laid just right and looked effortlessly chic until I came across Lynn & Lawrence Woolly hats.  The product of an adorable and creative couple based in Brooklyn, these hats work on every shape head and oh my gosh are they soft.  Made from 100% Alpaca and hand woven by a small group of men and women, these woollies are timeless, made fair and are hand washable.

#3 The BootsCoclico believes that luxury isn’t the ability to purchase endlessly, but it’s the privilege of choosing wisely.   Their modern minimalist designs are made with traditional quality and materials being sourced locally in Europe near the family run factory in Mallorca.  These are classic shoes you will have, and cherish, forever.

#2 The Skin.  Crème de la Mer, the Cadillac of moisturizer.  Created by a scientist to heal a chemical burn suffered in his lab, the original Crème de la Mer formula hasn’t changed much over the decades.  The main ingredient is seaweed, responsibly harvested from the ocean.  And the company knows just how important our oceans are to all of us, donating millions to save our precious seas…a campaign I whole heartedly support.  This thick, rich cream is just want my skin craves when the weather turns cold.

#1 The Bag.  Everything always comes back around in fashion and this fall the “IT” bag to have is a throwback to the 70’s style saddle bag.  But no need to go run out and buy a new one, you can find a gorgeous vintage one online.  Try sites like Etsy and TheRealReal and search for “saddle bag”.  To me, vintage is even more special than a new designer purse as you won’t see your exact bag on the arm of 12 different people.  Not to mention all the waste you are saving from a landfill.
