New Designers to Watch from the Oscars

Having your design walk the red carpet at the Academy Awards is a milestone many designers only dream of. There are several designers who are mainstays during awards season, but there are also a few Oscars designers whose pieces are beginning to hit the red carpet more frequently. After watching this year’s Oscars red carpet, we think these are the new designers to watch for awards season fashion.

Rodarte

Los Angeles-based brand Rodarte dressed several celebs on Oscars night. Lucy Boynton, Yalitza Aparicio Martínez, and Laura Dern all walked the red carpet in Rodarte gowns. Later in the evening, Rowan Blanchard wore a stunning Rodarte to the annual Vanity Fair after party.

Reem Acra

The always elegant Angela Bassett wore one of the evening’s several bright pink dresses on the red carpet. We love the structure of the one-shouldered custom Reem Acra gown. Actress Krysten Ritter also donned a body-hugging Reem Acra gown to debut her baby bump to the public! This is definitely one of the new designers to watch this year!

Brock Collection

Another new face on our list of Oscars designers is the Brock Collection. We adore the gown that was created for Black Panther actress Danai Gurira to wear to the Academy Awards this year. Later both Nina Dobrev and Emily Ratajkowski were spotted wearing other Brock Collection gowns to the Vanity Fair party.

DSquared2

When it comes to new designers, we thought Bohemian Rhapsody actor Joe Mazzello looked dapper in DSquared2. Our favorite DSquared2 look of the night went to Awkwafina, however. She dazzled in a rose gold night suit from the brand’s Spring Summer 2019 Pre Collection.

Pamella Roland

Actress Allison Janney looked stately and chic in a look from one of our favorite new designers. The custom Pamella Roland gown was a black velvet ensemble featured a plunging necklace and asymmetrical peplum. Later, Jennifer Hudson performed onstage in a dramatic Pamella Roland look complete with 10-foot train.

Thom Browne

Young actress Elsie Fisher looked exceptionally hip in a three-piece mohair tux from Thom Browne. This is one of the Oscars designers whose often avant-garde designs don’t always translate to the red carpet, but this look was a winner in our book!

Brandon Maxwell

We are obsessed with the straight-from-the-runway hot pink Brandon Maxwell gown that Sarah Paulson wore on the red carpet. We also loved the sleek custom jumpsuit Melissa McCarthy wore (as well as the fact that she changed into a comfy tracksuit for the after party). But the Brandon Maxwell gown that Lady Gaga wore to accept her first Academy Award produced the most buzz of the evening. What a special night for both actress and designer!

So, which of these new designers is your favorite? Are there any Oscars designers that we missed?
