Tissot, like Alpine, has kept striving for better performance, dedicating itself to the search for new technologies to deliver more accurate results every time it steps into the sporting arena and does so everytime it creates a new product as well. This partnership is a reflection of that and we are very proud of it.
A Sporting Tribute: The History
The Tissot PRS 516 Alpine Limited Edition Watch is an homage to the history of the brand. The design was inspired by the PR 516, which was an iconic watch from the 1960s. The PR 516 had a stylish design and impressive (for the time) technical features. The 1960s watch was a nod to the car racing industry. The PR in the name stands for particularly robust, which is how the movement suspension system was described.
Today’s version of the iconic watch, the Tissot PRS 516 continues the reference to car racing and takes it one step further. The new watch is a testament to Tissot and Alpine’s winning history. The partnership began in 1973. That year the legendary A110 vehicle won the Rally World Championships. To commemorate the new Alpine A110, Tissot developed this exciting special edition watch. The Tissot timepiece is limited to just 516 issued. This extremely exclusive watch is both extremely stylish and very useful in a variety of settings. The Tissot Alpine On Board Automatic borrows heavily from the PRS 516 in style but adds one important distinction: the ability to wear the watch two ways.
The Tissot Alpine On Board is available with both an automatic movement and a Quartz version. When fully wound, the Valjoux A05.H31 allows for sixty hours of power reserve. The other option gets its power from a quartz caliber. The Tissot Alpine On Board Automatic is approximately $2,200. The Quartz option is a little over $500. Both versions are available as accessories for the new Alpine A110 car, set to launch this year.
While the Tissot Alpine On Board is very similar to the PRS 516 is design and movement, the ability to morph into a different setting is what sets the timepiece apart from the rest. A clever system allows the wearer to release the 45 mm wide case from the strap. The metamorphosis is complete when one places the case on an aluminum supporting frame on the dashboard of the new A110. The Tissot timepiece sits next to the multimedia screen, allowing the driver to see the time easily while traveling.
The Tissot Alpine On Board made its debut at the International Car Show in Paris. The President of Tissot, Francois Thiebaud, and the Alpine commercial director, Regis Fricotte, presented the new timepieces together at the show. The exciting new stage of the ongoing relationship between the two brands is something both auto enthusiasts and luxury watch aficionados love. The stylish looks, limited availability, and unique concept drew rave reviews.
The exclusivity of the Tissot Alpine On Board Automatic make is a “must have” for any serious watch collector. Do you own a Tissot timepiece? To learn more about exclusive timepieces that you will want to add to your personal collection, see our story about the dreamy Hermes Moon Phase Watch.
