Hong Kong Fashion Week

Hong Kong Fashion Week is not your typical fashion week.  While some runway shows do take place, the majority of the action happens on the show floor.  Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the show gathers nearly 1,100 exhibitors from around the world.  The goal for the show is to serve as one-stop shopping for the industry to source garments, textiles and more.  Exhibits feature the latest fashion designs, international brands, garments, fabrics and accessories.

This year the theme for Hong Kong Fashion Week was ‘Style in Motion.’ There was plenty of motion to be seen on the show floor with exhibitors from Canada, Nepal, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam.  The show also featured eight pavilions from India, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Thailand, Italy, Korea and Nepal.

Show Floor Zones

The Hong Kong Fashion Week floor breaks down into multiple zones, so that buyers can easily find what they are looking for.  The Fashion Gallery features a variety of high fashion items, the Fabrics & Yarn zone interests textile merchants, and the World of Fashion Accessories overflows with footwear, gloves, scarves and more.  This year’s show saw the addition of two new zones: Fashionable Sportwear and Urban Clothing.  The increased demand for these styles of clothing in the past years surely influenced the addition of these new areas of the show floor.

International Buyers

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council sought to create more business opportunities for exhibitors by organizing nearly 100 buying missions.  These missions brought more than 5,000 buyers all around the world to the show.

Expert Education

Hong Kong Fashion week also features seminars and forums where experts in the industry share their knowledge.  International trend forecasting groups present their prediction for the future of the industry.  Educational seminars on marketing, technology, and other pertinent topics help to keep the fashion industry moving forward.

Student Showcases

While most fashion week schedules are full of mainstream, established designers, Hong Kong Fashion Week includes shows from local fashion design graduates.  Students from Chinese University of Hong Kong’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong all held graduation shows.

While it is not your typical fashion week, we love the fact that the Hong Kong Fashion Week encompasses all aspects of the fashion industry.  From education to marketing, from student work to high fashion, Hong Kong Fashion Week covers it all!
