Spring Trends 2018 and How to Wear Them

Spring has finally arrived! What comes along with a new season? Exciting clothing trends! This spring season has us mad for plaid, satin and last but certainly not least, the color fuchsia (my personal favorite color). Each season, I love to fashion forecast and be ahead of the game when it comes to upcoming seasonal trends. Why invest in new pieces if you don’t know whether or not they are going to be “on trend”? Splurging on fabulous staple pieces that I know will withstand the test of time is completely worthwhile. However, if it’s a trend that isn’t going to last long, I prefer to have fun with pieces that are not as expensive but still trendy enough to get me through the season.

I’m thrilled that fuchsia is in this spring mix this year! Designers such as Leanne Marshall, Tracy Reese and Libertine, just to name a few, featured fuchsia prominently throughout this past NYFW. I personally think fuchsia is a color that looks wonderful on any skin tone and definitely makes a statement. The moment the weather transitions from winter to spring, you will find me in my fuchsia wardrobe. Clearly this is the color of the season but did you know that monochromatic dressing is also a huge trend? That means dressing in one solid color from head to toe! I know it sounds a bit excessive but I promise you, it’s not. It’s the perfect way to combine two fashion trends in one look…talk about a fashionista. I must say I personally love a monochromatic suit because it is much more versatile than you would expect. Going on a weekend getaway? Pack your monochromatic suit and you can wear it three different ways! If you’re going for a more casual look, pair your blazer with a nice pair of jeans and slides. Going for a nice dinner? Wear your pants with a sleek top. Business meeting? Wear your monochromatic suit. It’s a win, win situation.

Next on the spring trend list…plaid! Plaid is one of those fun trends that seems more like a right of passage than a seasonal trend as it is a style that is rich in both tradition and history. I can just picture Queen Elizabeth wearing a chic plaid Burberry trench coat walking her dogs in the English countryside. Just as easily, I can see Gigi Hadid walking the streets of NYC in the latest plaid trends. Overall it is a great transitional pattern for any and all seasons. You can suit up entirely in blazer set, put on a patchwork plaid skirt or swap out your traditional white button-down for one with a tartan trimming. Whatever style you choose, the resurgence of plaid is back and chicer than ever this season.

Last but not least, my favorite trend…satin! The “bathleisure” trend is all the rage and I’m thrilled about it. Can you believe that the fashion world is actually allowing us to wear our pajamas out and about?!? Well…not pajamas but it’s as close as we are ever going to get! Infamous designers such as St. John, Balmain and Emilio Pucci are just a few that were quick to start this particular trend. The satin trend has become part of the trickle-down effect, making its way to mainstream stores such as Zara and Topshop. Designers have continued to create loose fitting silk suits that are a bit baggy but pulled together with a belt. This look offers a chic alternative to the tracksuit that will not be shunned if you wear it to work, dinner or on a hot date.
