When we Americans think of department stores, we tend to picture something far less glamorous that what Paris has to offer.  Located in the 9th arrondissement, the gorgeous Galeries Lafayette features a stunning glass dome and breathtaking 1912 Art Nouveau architecture.  Take a short walk from the Eiffel Tower and you will find yourself at the upscale department store, Printemps.  This store was recently remodeled, so it is even more beautiful than before!  Or you can head to the first ever department store in the world, Le Bon Marché.  The store was founded in 1838, but it now operates as a modern high-end department store.

Designer Consignment Stores

If you are looking for vintage couture or designer pieces at a steep discount, Paris’s consignment stores are the place to go.  Reciproque is the largest luxury designer consignment store in Paris. Head to the swanky 16th arrondissement to find the store’s seven boutiques.  If the store’s 7500 square feet of shopping space still does not satisfy your shopping habits, steer yourself to the 4th arrondissement.  It is home to Alternatives, a designer consignment store favored by Parisian models and other locals.
