Dior’s most recent runway show was inspired by French feminist Niki de Saint Phalle. The collection featured vibrant, wearable pieces that we could not wait to get our hands on. Who doesn’t want to look like a strong, talented, stylish French feminist? If you are lucky enough to own some of the SS18 pieces from Dior, these are few tips for styling them for Spring.
How to Style Wide Leg Denim
We are in love with all the designer denim that came down Dior’s runway! While each piece is beautiful, we are especially drawn to the simple cut of the wide leg denim trousers. When you are a styling an outfit that includes wide leg, trouser-style denim, it’s best to keep the proportions of the top sleek to balance the billowing pants. Choose a shirt or blouse that stays a bit closer to the body and which can be tucked in. Sandals, heels, and espadrilles all work well with wide leg denim. Or, you can choose to wear the same Dior branded Mary Janes that were worn by models on the runway!
How to Style Bold Stripes
Dior’s SS18 runway was full of bold, graphic stripes. Even the evening wear featured glittering diagonal stripes! Stripes are, of course, a classic pattern and nothing new in the world of fashion. To really make the most of the impact that stripes can have on an outfit, it’s best to let them be the star of the show. If you are wearing Dior’s sporty navy and white striped jacket, keep the other pieces in your outfit monotone. The stripes will really stand out and make a statement!
The other important tip to keep in mind whenever you are wearing bold patterns of any sort: be mindful of scale. If you are a very petite person, large scale prints can be overwhelming. Thankfully, Dior’s SS18 collection featured stripes of all sizes, so you can choose which works best for you!
How to Style Branded Accessories
More high end designers are producing accessories with overt branding. The most recent Dior collection is full of it. Handbags, bracelets, shoes, and more are emblazoned with some version of Dior’s branding. These fun pieces tend make an outfit skew more casual, so it’s a good idea to avoid them for formal occasions. We also recommend limiting your look to one branded accessories per outfit. So, if you own both the J’ADIOR clutch and a pair of the Dior Mary Janes, wear them separately. Calling out your favorite designer is great, but you don’t want to look like a walking billboard.
Then again, this collection was inspired by a well-known female artist who advocated for freedom of expression. So, if you don’t feel like following any of these rules, don’t! Fashion should be fun and empowering, not restrictive. Wear the SS18 pieces from Dior in whatever way makes you feel beautiful! You can also see more pieces we are coveting from this collection here.
