For the first time, luxury brand Hermès brought their fashion show to Los Angeles. We have an exclusive look inside the party just for you! The menswear collection itself was previously shown in Paris however it was displayed in California with a celebrity studded event. Entertainment abounded at the Hermès’ Dwntwnmen extravaganza which was a combination runway show and concert. Long Beach indie band Cold War Kids gave an amazing show to wrap up the night.
The fashion itself was perfect for Southern California with shorts, light jackets, and more in neutral colors. The relaxed and fresh collection fits in well with the vibe of Los Angeles and you can see the complete collection in the video below from the debut in Paris.
The LA event was held in an industrial warehouse that was transformed just for the special night. Hermès president and chief executive officer Robert Chavez said,
We’ve been dreaming about this evening for more than two years. What better place to be than under the stars in downtown L.A., in a place which most of you have never been before?
In addition to the runway, there were 7 rooms that opened after the show, with names like “Give the Joy Back” and “Feel the Color,” for guests to explore. Slogans from graphic artist Anthony Burrill such as, “Shake Me Up” and “Persistence Is Fruitful,” could be seen around the venue.
Attendees were able to enjoy different experiences in each of these rooms. For instance, one was a listening room with vinyl records of music used at Hermès men’s runway shows.
Another room housed various mechanical elements including a motorcycle and a silver Thirties Voisin that was the talk of the night!
Why choose LA for an event like this? Robert Chavez cleared that up by saying,
We have a significant business here on the West Coast. Los Angeles is really the center of that business. … And it was time for us to come downtown. We love the concept of being casual, chic, cool, innovative and surprising.
Whatever the reason, we hope Hermès continues the tradition and displays more collections in Southern California. We will be in the front row at these luxury events enjoying the fashion, music and perhaps even cocktail or two.
