Lights, camera, action! The Academy Awards is one of the most anticipated nights of the year. There are many reasons we look forward to the Oscars, but let’s be real… watching the red carpet looks is at the top of our list! From bold avant-garde dresses to princess-like ball gowns, we look forward to seeing our favorite celebrities step out onto the red carpet, strutting some of the most incredible fashion creations. This year, I was beyond impressed by a variety of gowns seen at the 89th Academy Awards. Although there were many to choose from, below are my top five picks of the night.
Emma Stone- Givenchy
Ooh La La…Emma Stone wearing gold Givenchy Haute Couture! Need I say more? This one of my absolute favorite looks of the night. This gold beaded dress is part of the couture collection by Riccardo Tisci’s, one of his last designs while working at Givenchy before stepping down as creative director. I love the fact that the gown has gorgeous beaded tassels around the bottom, giving it a flapper-inspired design, which is completely in line with the spirit of La La Land. Emma’s gorgeous waved 20’s-style curls was also perfectly on theme with one of my favorite movies of the year. Did I mention her stunning makeup and red lips? Perfection.
Emma Roberts- Vintage Armani Prive
Didn’t Emma Roberts look incredibly stunning as she glided down the red carpet in her vintage Armani Prive gown? In collaboration with the Red Carpet Green Dress initiative, Emma wore a vintage, sustainable dress in order to raise awareness for environmentally friendly fashion. It reminded me of the Valentino dress Julia Roberts wore in 2001 when she took home the Oscar for Best Actress. Emma is definitely following in the footsteps of her Aunt Julia; watch out world, this is one actress to keep your eye on as she continuously wows the crowed both on and off the big screen.
Jessica Biel- Kaufman Franco
Jessica Biel absolutely dominated the red carpet in her floor-length silver and gold Kaufman Franco dress. The elaborate gold Tiffany collar added an interesting element to the already fabulous metallic long sleeve gown. I would consider this look to be a bit risky for the red carpet; people could either love it or hate it. Jessica Biel is not afraid of taking risks and she pulled off yet another stunning red carpet look, which also happens to be one of my personal favorites. I also loved the fact that Jessica kept her hair and makeup simple yet elegant, which allowed her dress to completely steal the show.
Taraji Henson- Custom Alberta Ferretti
Taraji Henson was a complete knockout amongst Hollywood’s best dressed as she stepped out onto the Oscars red carpet in her custom Alberta Ferretti dress. Her off-the-shoulder midnight blue velvet gown was the epitome of elegance and class, heavily inspired by vintage Hollywood glamour. The sophisticated thigh-high slit and sleek neckline was the perfect ensemble, showing just the right amount of skin. Her beautiful gown, matched with Jimmy Choo sandals and a flurry of diamonds was an absolute showstopper, which appropriately matched her incredible year as an actress.
Brie Larson- Oscar de la Renta
Brie Larson looked breath taking in her strapless velvet Oscar de la Renta gown. This dress was a red carpet designer debut, the first major design by Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim. The flowing black dress with its’ sweetheart neckline and beautiful train of ruffles was anything but boring. Brie’s tousled hairstyle, filled with loose waves and a bold red lip was on point! She stunned the crowed and Old Hollywood vibe back to life, making Brie one of my favorite red carpets looks of the night.
