The market for luxury watches is still going strong and shows no signs of slowing down. The last year saw the introduction of a variety of new watches from iconic watchmaking brands. Some returned to their classic designs to create new watches with a timeless look. Others turned to new technologies to create never before seen looks that became top-selling watches for the year. Here are some of the top-selling luxury watches of 2018 that you might just need to add to your collection.
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona
The Cosmograph Daytona was introduced in 1963 as a watch for professional drivers. The unique timepiece was designed to meet the demands of professional race car drivers, but the appeal of the watch extended to other luxury watch admirers. The updated Rolex Cosmograph Daytona made a huge splash in 2018 and was immediately on the list of top-selling watches. Available in a variety of color finishes, this Swiss made watch’s appeal is enhanced due to being forever linked to icon Paul Newman.
Omega Seamaster
This watch was first introduced on the market in 1993 and has been worn by every James Bond since then. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M diving watch first appeared in the 1995 Bond film “Goldeneye” and has been in every movie since. It surprised no one when actor Daniel Craig, the current James Bond, was named the official ambassador for the newest 300M edition. The 2018 Omega Seamaster is a celebration of 25 years of success. The new version has an anti-magnetic chronometer movement. Another improvement is the updated helium escape valve. This adjustment protects the watch from damage due to pressure changes during deep sea dives. Non-divers just love the way this luxury watch looks making this a worthy addition to the top-selling luxury watches of 2018.
TAG Heuer Formula 1
Previously, we discussed the link between Rolex and Daytona. Here is another racing watch, this time with a matchup between TAG Heuer and Formula 1. Clearly, the fusion of luxury watches and racing is one that has great appeal to buyers. TAG Heuer describes these chronographs as being designed “for a life in motion”. Masculine and trendy, these top-selling watches are great both on and off the race track. There are a variety of color options and finishes to choose from, allowing each wearer to choose the version that fits their lifestyle best.
Rolex GMT Master II
The Rolex GMT-Master II has been given a variety of nicknames by fans. Most of the names are inspired by the unique color schemes available to choose from. The black and blue color combination has been dubbed “Batman” by wearers. The 2018 version offers a red and blue color option. This has resulted in it being nicknamed “Pepsi” as the colors resemble the logo for the soft drink. Clearly, this watch has a place in both pop culture and luxury living plus it is one of the top-selling luxury watches of the year.
Patek Philippe 5270P Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
One of the most highly respected watchmakers in the world is Patek Philippe. New releases are highly anticipated and much sought after, which is what helped land the maker on this list of the top-selling luxury watches for 2018. The 5270P is not a new watch but is now available with a platinum case and salmon dial. This new look is particularly distinctive and has been very well received. This update to the 2011 release can also show the phases of the moon. The vintage-inspired watch is very pricey, starting at around $180,000, but that has not slowed enthusiasm for the timepiece at all.
