5 Eco-Friendly Luxury Designers

More and more luxury brands are making a determined effort to change their practices to be more eco-friendly.  Fashion houses are no exception.  These five designers have shown a commitment to using more sustainable materials and implementing more eco-conscious business practices.

Marni

This Italian designer has produced bohemian ready-to-wear clothing since 1994.  Several of the brand’s accessory collections have centered around using recycled materials like plastic bottles, old records, and cardboard.

Armani

In 2012, the high end fashion house designed a red-carpet gown for Livia Firth to wear to the Golden Globes.  The gown was specially designed for the eco-conscious fashionista and was made of woven fibers made of recycled plastic bottles.

Donna Karan

Donna Karan is so committed to raising awareness for sustainability that she created the Urban Zen marketplace.  This online market features goods made from sustainable or recycled materials and products made by artisans from around the world.

Stella McCartney

Designer Stella McCartney heads a vegetarian company committed to being ecologically sustainable and transparent about business practices.  The brand also gives back to numerous charities like, BioPlanet USA, Oceana, and Meat Free Monday.

Valentino

In 2013, Greenpeace Italy named Valentino it’s #1 eco-friendly fashion brand. The fashion house has promised to eliminate the production of hazardous chemicals as a by-product of their clothing manufacturing.  They also agreed to a zero-deforesting policy in regard to leather production and package procurement.
