The Best of Jakarta Fashion Week

This year Jakarta Fashion Week celebrated its 10th anniversary.  The 2018 Fashion Week made a point to celebrate diversity.  This year’s theme was “Bhinneka dalam Berkarya,” which tranlates as “diversity in creating.”  The shows presented during this year’s fashion week featured a diverse range of designers and models, as well as garments ranging from ready-to-wear to avant garde.  These are some of our favorite designers from the week’s shows.

Yogiswari Pradjanti

In recent years Yogiswari Pradjanti has presented collections featuring hand-printed images of well-known Indonesian characters. At Jakarta Fashion Week 2018, Yogi’s collection centered around the theme “The Nyonah Story,” which told the story of the journey of the these characters around the world. Yogi’s colorful designs reflect the joy of Indonesian women who are passionate about traveling.

Major Minor

A collaboration between couple Ari and Sari Seputra and designers Inneke Margarethe and Ambar Pratiwi, Major Minor’s collection featured breezy, ready-to-wear pieces.  Garments in black and white comprised the majority of the brand’s “Color Deconstructed” collection.  Despite the casual vibe of the show, the pieces all felt decidedly upscale.

Hian Tjen

As one of Jakarta Fashion Week’s Dewi Fashion Knights (alongside Major Minor and others), Hian Tjen presented a collection that combined mod ’60s style with futuristic embellishments.  The couture collection looked like a luxe version of Barbarella, complete with studded sheath dresses and mirrored capes.

We had a hard time picking a favorite out of these amazing designers, so we want your opinion!  Which of these designer’s shows is your favorite?  Do you prefer Yogiswari Pradjanti’s joyful prints or Major Minor’s minimalistic modernism?  Or maybe you like Hian Tjen’s space age mod pieces best.  Let us know in the comments below or on social media!
